super brief update

We're half-way through the finals for the third quarter.  God is doing some amazazing things here!  I have been thinking about home a lot lately... for reasons that I will explain at a later date.  I've been thinking about the things I miss and the things I would prefer to not live without for too long... and I've been thinking about something Pastor Chili said before I left... he was talking about the family of God and how it we work.  He called out my name specifically concerning the idea that even though I'm a few thousand miles away, I'm still part of the movement of God... this was especially meaningful to me because I have a tendency to beg God to make me a part of every move I see, when He wants to move in me wherever I'm at and with whomever I am with... I can be fully engaged wherever He calls me to be... WOW...

still missing the center of the universe and all of the family and friends who live there!

MY awesome God!

I"M HERE!!! in California and making tons of friends! There are only 11 of us students this year and 7 of us are first year students.  We have 5 mime teachers, 1 dance teacher and a list of other individuals who are qualified to lead conditioning and other classes.  I will be able to attend Mosaic as planned and still attend the church that sponsors the school which will be nice.

I'm currently fighting a head-cold.  So please keep me in your prayers.

There are so many things I want to share and not enough time and they're all a jumble in my head right now.  I think I might reserve future blogging to the weekends.

Oh!  Before I go!  I finally talked to the person sitting next to me on a plane!  She was fabulous! A teacher who also trains horses and she had her corgi/chihuahua mix dog with her (soooooo cute) named Cailey because she was born on St. Patrick's Day.

so yeah... the rest will have to wait for the weekend...

Ah yes... I almost forgot!

My phone number is the same, but I don't have unlimited text so please try to keep that to a minimum, and I have free nights and weekends... so after 10 Michigan time is preferable though I'll take calls before then if I can.

My mailing address is as follows...

HA

never mind... I brought the wrong paper with me to the library... oh well, I'll let you know Saturday or Sunday.

Proverbs 24:10 ~ If you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength

In Michigan, and many other locations in similar climates, we really have 5 seasons.  There's the usual winter, spring, summer and fall.  Between fall and winter however is a season my father and i have decided to call, "Fallter".  The trees are tricked into keeping their leaves past the time they should have let them fall and now they are laden with snow.  It struck me this morning on my way to work that the trees I was wagging my finger at (don't they know any better?!) were not so unlike myself.  As I pass through season upon season, I see the signs that winter is coming.  Do I willingly release the things I have been pouring myself into?  Generally the answer is a resounding NO.  My foolish self would rather hold on until the weight of the newly fallen snow pulls my branches earthward and I finally lose my grasp.  Why are the winter seasons of life dreaded?  Why don't I run to the solitude?  Why don't I yearn for the quite comfort of those intimate times with only my Jesus and me? ... yeah... pretty foolish.

Stranger Danger

My sister (Meg) watches the nightly news with her husband.  There has been a recent influx of child abductions via the old stranger with candy gimmick.  So, being the responsible older sister that she is, Meg came home and quizzed our seven-year-old brother Joseph.

Meg:       Joseph, do you know what “Stranger Danger” means?

Joe:        Obviously… strangers are dangerous.

Meg:       Ok… do you know what to do if a stranger offers you candy?

Joe:        Ummmmm… TAKE THE CANDY AND RUN!!!!

While the conclusion he came to caused me and my siblings to fall into fits of laughter, had we found out his misconception of what to do in that situation via his being snatched… well, let’s just say that our response would have been less giggly.

As I went to bed last night, I thought about Joseph’s statement and our response… and I thought about my sin and the “stranger with the candy”… and then I thought about those brothers and sisters who might be snatched by a stranger because I laugh at their temptations instead of showing them the sobering picture of what taking candy from the stranger will cause.

So…

What’s your candy?

Who’s your brother/sister, and do you know what their candy is?

Do you/they know the appropriate response to stranger danger?

(note: these are just things to think about… I don’t really want/need to know what your “candy” is)

I Corinthians 10:14 (the message) So, my dear friends, when you see people reducing God to something they can use or control, get out of their company as fast as you can.

I Timothy 6:11-12 (the message) But you, Timothy, man of God: Run for your life from all this. Pursue a righteous life--a life of wonder, faith, love, steadiness, courtesy. Run hard and fast in the faith. Seize the eternal life, the life you were called to, the life you so fervently embraced in the presence of so many witnesses.

II Timothy 2:22 (kjv) Shun youthful lusts and flee them, and aim at and pursue righteousness (all that is virtuous and good, right living, conformity to the will of God in thought, word, and deed); [and aim at and pursue] faith, love, [and] peace (harmony and concord with others) in fellowship with all [Christians], who call upon the Lord out of a pure heart.

SPLENDID

I had a perfectly SPLENDID day yesterday!  I got to have breakfast with my brother (Ross) before taking him to church with me.  Thank you to all who made him feal so very welcome in our home, and to Pastor Chilly for faithfully bringing the word.  Afterwards, we called up our adopted brother (aka Ross' best bud Jonathan) and his little brother and had lunch served by the HILARIOUS Bulgarian @ Papa Vino's (Yonko).  I then went to hang out with my dear ones... Jess, Troy, Zachary, Chelsea, Roz and David.  It was glorious!  We also got to meet 2 more of Roz's brothers which was cool.  Plenty of guitar playing, singing, laughing and even a little dancing.  Jess & the girls sang and played their song for Mike (Jess' bro) and he loved it.  OH! AND we were talking about musicals, particularly Jesus Christ Superstar and Godspell and we decided that sometime in the next, oh, 2-5 years, we're going to make a musical and film it in differant locations in Detroit telling some of our testimonies and a few others and showing differant denominational perspectives and such and how they each influence one main charactor and.... wait! What am I doing?!?! You might steal our idea!

more to come...
